Don’t freak out! A henna tattoo is not an actual ink tattoo. It’s just a cute decorative tattoo that was invented in the Occidental areas of Africa. They are used as a symbol to bring luck to whoever wears them. Ashlyn Montague said, ” I think that henna tattoos are pretty and cute. And I like how they still stay on for so long but they still come off.”

First of all, you would need to to buy some henna powder. You can get this from craft stores like Michael’s or Joann. They can come in kits or separate. Once you have the powder, you’re not done getting the tools needed. Here is a list:

  • Fresh henna powder
  • Lemon juice
  • Sugar
  • Essential oils
  • Non-metal mixing bowl and spoon
  • Plastic wrap
  • ZipLock bag
  • Decorating tip
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Olive oil
  • Mild soap
  • Gloves for handling henna
  • Tape
  • Scissors

(list made at  www.instructables.com)

Now you can get started. First, you will need to mix ¼ of the powder with ¼ cup of lemon juice. Stir well. Then, add ½ tablespoon of sugar and ½ tablespoon of essential oil. You should add a plastic wrap over the bowl and let it rest for a few minutes.

Next, you should use the plastic bag and the decorating tip to make an applicator. Scoop the henna mix into the applicator. Wash your skin with soap and water to make a clean surface to work on.

Make your own design (I do recommend to practice the design on a piece of paper first in case you mess up). After you are done with the design, just let it dry for a few minutes. Then, you should wrap your design with a plastic bag. Once you take the bag off, apply some essential oil to the design. Finally, you can just gently rinse the design to get rid of any excess.

Awesome, now you have a cute henna to show all your friends! Make sure to come back next week for a tutorial on the cutest summer hairstyles.
