The top 5 leagues include the Spanish La Liga, English Premier League, Italian Serie A, French Ligue 1, and German Bundesliga. These 5 leagues consist of the highest quality teams and players. Here is a list of the best teams within the top 5 leagues.

1. FC Barcelona. No one in European soccer rivals the way “Barca” plays. Last season, Barca won La Liga, and the Copa Del Rey. With the new 2018/19 season barely started, Barcelona has already won the Spanish Super Cup.

Fun Fact: FC Barcelona was founded by a Swiss soccer player named Joan Gamper.

2. Real Madrid is always in the contention of the UEFA Champions League, La Liga, and Copa Del Rey. They have won 3 Champions Leagues in a row, and are often considered the best or one of the best teams in the world.

Fun Fact: Real Madrid has never dropped down into the second division, along with FC Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao.

3. Juventus is right there with the best teams in the world. However, they haven’t won the UEFA Champions League since 1988. Juventus is always the favorite to win the Italian Serie A title, but this year they are targeting the prestigious Champions League title.

Fun Fact: It’s been more than 70 years since Juventus and Sampdoria met for the first time in Serie A, which was on 5 January, 1947.


4. Manchester City is undoubtedly one of the highest quality teams in Europe. They control possession, and have dominated the Premier League. This year, Pep Guardiola’s team will be looking to win a Champions League title. Manchester City has looked the part the past few years.

Fun Fact: Manchester is the birthplace of the first professional soccer league.



5. Paris Saint-Germain spent some big money in the 2017 summer transfer window, acquiring the likes of Neymar Jr., and Kylian Mbappe. They have a strong squad with Neymar, Mbappe, Edinson Cavani, Angel Di Maria, Dani Alves, and Gianluigi Buffon. PSG are strong favorites to win the Ligue 1 League title, and are also looking to grab a Champions League title.

6. Liverpool. This year, Liverpool was an explosive team, making it to the Champions League Final, and putting up a good fight for the Premier League Title. They have looked to strengthen their squad recently, making purchases for Virgil Van Dijk, and Alisson Becker. Mohammed Salah, Roberto Firminho, and Sadio Mane are a stellar trio, and really showed it this season.

Fun Fact: A Liverpool player named Robbie Fowler holds the record for fastest hat trick in the Premier League, scoring 3 goals in just 4 minutes and 33 seconds.


7. Atletico Madrid. Atletico Madrid has been a very strong squad in the past season. They won the Europa League, and the UEFA Super Cup last season. They have a strong squad with Antoine Griezmann, Thomas Lemar, Koke, Diego Costa, and Diego Godin. They took 2nd place in La Liga, ahead of Real Madrid. They are a good squad.

Fun Fact: Atletico Madrid have the nickname “The Mattress Makers.”


8. Chelsea FC. Chelsea is always right there, battling for the Premier League title. They have a very strong attack with Eden Hazard, Pedro, Willian, Olivier Giroud, and Ngolo Kante all contributing. In the 2016/17 season, Chelsea won the Premier League, topping giants like Manchester City, Manchester United, and Liverpool.

Fun Fact: Chelsea was the first team to play with number shirts, in August 1928.
