Every year Draper Park Middle School does a musical for all students to join, conducted by our amazing theater teacher, Mrs. Heiner. Every musical that Draper Park does is super fun and full of dancing, singing, and lots of practice. To be in the musical you have to fill out an audition paper and then go to the audition, which is Monday November 5th, for a lead roll, and Tuesday November 6th, to be in the ensemble.
But what is the school musical this year? Rather than Mrs. Heiner telling us what the musical was going to be, she held a competition with 4 clues to see who could guess the musical. Each week Mrs. Heiner gave one clue pertaining to the musical and let everyone put their guesses in a box. The four clues were:
This musical, when it was first produced, won a well deserved Tony Award for best musical.
This musical is a satire of a time in American history.
This musical briefly features a famous TV host.
This musical once starred an actor most famously known as a chimney sweep.
After all of the clues were put out, there were 123 guesses in the box. The overall winner was Aleigh Stilson who guessed the correct musical of Bye Bye Birdie. “I have seen many musicals and was able to figure it out because I was familiar with it,” Aleigh said. Stilson plans to audition for one of the lead roles on November 5th. Currently, Aleigh is taking advanced theater as one of her electives. She’ll make a great actor in this year’s musical!
If you have any questions about the musical go to the theater room and ask Mrs. Heiner.
Don’t forget to audition for this year’s Draper Park school musical.
