7th and 8th graders have mixed lunches this year. The administration of Draper Park Middle School has changed the lunches so that B and C lunches are a mix of 7th and 8th graders. The 7th and 8th graders now sit around different people from different grades this year!

Some students are mad about this change because they can’t sit with their friends. A 7th grader, Cruz Ballantine, from team Freyja said, “ I feel separated from a lot of my friends and it makes any fun of school go away.” So some students don’t like the change.

The only lunches combined are C and B lunches so A lunch is only for 6th graders. In past years, lunches were mostly separated by grade.  7th graders had B lunch and the 8th graders had C lunch. Assistant principal, Mr. Seltz,  said, “The reason that 7th and 8th graders have combined lunches is to give more opportunities for 7th and 8th graders to have more elective options.”

Seltz also said, “It prepares middle schoolers for high school where all lunches are combined.” One of the upsides to having mixed lunches is the 8th and the 7th graders are becoming friends.
