Halloween has changed over time

Halloween started around the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain which was celebrated the night of October 31st. People would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. They did not want to be recognized by ghosts because they thought the ghosts would mistake them for fellow spirits.

Nowadays, people wear costumes to be funny and cute, hand out candy to little kids, trick or treat, and have fun! There are many places that decorate for Halloween by hanging ghosts, carving pumpkins, and hanging wreaths.

Halloween is no longer celebrated to ward off ghosts in costumes, instead people dress up for fun!
