Leading up to Outsiders Day

The 8th graders of DPMS have written 2 essays and done an art project to prepare for Outsiders Day.

Outsiders Day is a day that in 2nd and 3rd period 8th graders watch The Outsiders and do activities related to the book. Students are allowed to dress up as characters from the book. This year, Outsiders Day is on Thursday, October 7, 2021.

In many 8th grade classes, students wrote a character essay about their favorite character while they read the book and then did a poster project about another character they were assigned to. After completing these assignments, students started to write their final essay on similarities and differences between greasers and Socs. Once completed, they were allowed to participate in Outsiders Day.

On team Heimdall, they decided not to do the posters for the characters since they are in a separate hall, and can’t participate with the other 8th grade team’s posters.

The Outsiders was written by S.E. Hinton who was 15 years old at the time. Hinton saw some of the things that happened in the book in her own life and decided to bring it to public attention.
