Outsiders Day

Every year in 8th grade at DPMS, students read a book titled “The Outsiders,” by S.E Hinton. In her book, there are two main groups of people, the Socials, (Socs for short) and greasers.

On Thursday, October 7th, 8th graders celebrated Outsiders Day. Outsiders Day went from 2nd to 4th period.

The greasers are a teen gang that live on the east side and consist of 7 kids: Johnny Cade, Ponyboy Curtis, Sodapop Curtis, Darry Curtis, Dallas Winston, Two-Bit Mathews, and Steve Randle. The Curtis family lost their parents at a young age and rely on each other and the gang.

The Socs are rich kids that live on the west side of town. Some Socs include Bob, Randall, Cherry and Marcia.

During Outsiders Day, students dressed up as Socs and greasers. All 8th graders met in the cafeteria during 2nd period. They were given chocolate cake and Pepsi for breakfast. The same type of breakfast was eaten by the kids in the book.

All the 8th graders that completed both of the essays, and had no F’s in any of their core classes, were able to participate.

After eating, the students went into the auditorium and watched the movie “The Outsiders.”
